Video Games

For the second quarter, some of Northern Lakes Regional Academy's students have been in a workshop where they will create their very own video game about their morning seminar using a program called Construct 2. They first will make some basic tutorial games before making their own game from scratch. They should be finished with their video game by the end of the quarter. I asked a sophomore, named Aydin, who is in the workshop, about it. I first asked him about the greatest thing about the workshop. Instead of replying with the basic “It involves video games” answer, he said, “There is a lot of freedom to do what we want”. Each student in the video game seminar is allowed to work at their own pace as long as they are not too far behind. I also asked him what is the most difficult thing about the workshop. Aydin replied with, “Trying to get the hang of it, but once you do it’s easy.” I finally asked him if he will use the skills he learns in this workshop. He replied “Who knows.” He claims that he will possibly do a video game project sometime in this school, but he doesn’t know exactly if he will use Construct 2 in the future. The students in the workshop are currently making video games as the end of the quarter approaches.
